CFAES leadership announcements

Cathann A. Kress has been reappointed Ohio State vice president for agricultural administration and CFAES dean through June 30, 2027.

Kress is responsible for leading CFAES’ education, research, service, and outreach missions. She also leads its fundraising efforts and facilitates strategic internal and external relationships.

Under her leadership, CFAES has advanced across its mission areas of research, teaching, and outreach, including creating a comprehensive new strategic plan; updated promotion and tenure processes; and strengthened and more representative shared governance structures for faculty, staff, and students.

CFAES continues to have a robust research portfolio, including $44 million in research expenditures in fiscal year 2021. CFAES also has strengthened external collaborations around critical Ohio issues, including water quality and food, and agricultural and natural resources policy and research.

Shannon Washburn, professor and chair of the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership since 2020, was named the college’s Sanford G. Price and Isabelle P. Barbee Chair in Teaching, Advising, and Learning.

Douglas Karcher, ’94, was appointed professor and chair of the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science through June 30, 2025. Pasha A. Lyvers Peffer, a professor in the Department of Animal Sciences, was named interim chair of Animal Sciences until a permanent chair is named.
